Middle Cerebellar Peduncle (Brachium Pontis)
Middle Cerebellar Peduncle (Brachium Pontis)
Pathways from the cerebral cortex of the frontal and temporal lobes extend to the pons. Together with the pyramidal tract they form the cerebral peduncles (A1) in which they occupy the lateral and medial segments: laterally lies the temporopontinetract (Türck’s bundle) (A2) and medially the frontopontine tract (Arnold’s bundle) (A3).The fibers of the first neuron terminate in the pontine nuclei (A4). The fibers of the second neuron cross from the pontine nu-clei to the opposite side and form as the pontocerebellar tract themiddle cerebellarpeduncle. The fibers terminate as mossyfibers mostly in the contralateral cerebellar hemisphere but some also bilaterally in the middle segment of the vermis.
